March 2017 – Guild Representative News

Representatives Newsletter
March, 2017

Dear MAFA Representative – Thank you for continuing to update your guild with MAFA news.  You are a big reason for our growth this past year.  Keep up the good work!

Save the date for our Spring Representative Assembly — at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival on Saturday, May 6, 2017 —  1:30 p.m. in the Dining Hall. More information on the agenda will be forthcoming in future newsletters. If you cannot attend, please send an alternate to represent your guild.

Thanks to those of you who have volunteered over the past few months. Here’s what a few of our reps and guild members have been doing lately to help our organization:

Testing our online registration system to make sure it was ready for our January rollout: Linda Ihle (Outer Banks Fiber Guild, NC), Margaret Briggs (Albemarle Handweavers, VA), Jenifer Bredi (Washington Spinners & Weavers, PA)

Conference Update

Registration has gone very well — so far 340 students have registered with more coming in each day! This will be the largest conference in more than two decades and we are thrilled! If your guild has members who haven’t registered yet, there are still a lot of great classes with a few openings.  You can see the list of open classes on our website at: http://www.mafa-conference-2017.org

The Conference Brochure has also been updated and can be found at: http://www.mafa-conference-2017.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/2017_MAFA_brochure.pdf

Social Media Help Needed

Our Social Media Team under the direction of our First Vice President/Communications Chair, Charlene Marietti, has been doing a great job. In fact, we believe that these social media interactions have helped to create the great registration success we have seen this year.

But we could use your help.  Like us, friend us, follow us…..and if you are an avid user, please consider volunteering to help us get the word out on the various platforms. We really need help on Twitter, Instagram and Weavolution, although our Facebook, Pinterest and Ravelry moderators would be happy for some help too. If you are interested, please contact Charlene at firstvp@mafafiber.org, and she can explain what kind of help she needs.

Goody Bags

We’re looking forward to seeing all the guilds’ goodies — always a hit at the conference! We hope you are hard at work — and having fun planning and creating these! More details on where the goodies can be delivered at the the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival, or where they can be mailed will be in the next newsletter.

Conference Day-Trippers

If you can’t join us for the conference, think about joining us for the day. There are plenty of vendors to keep you busy, and you are welcome to attend the evening events.

And if you can volunteer to help us out, especially during class times, please contact Elizabeth Ator, at volunteercoordinator@mafafiber.org. She will find you something fun to do!
